Supporter Shoutout! Wheels of Hope Transport Crate Fundraiser

Our Wheels of Hope transport van is on the road every week delivering precious dogs, cats, and even rabbits to transport partners across the U.S., so they can avoid euthanasia in our city shelters in Oklahoma. These transports literally save hundreds and hundreds of lives each year.

At the end of February, we asked our community to support the purchase of safer, more comfortable, sturdy crates that would allow our team to configure the transport van in different ways, more easily unload and load animals, and ensure the “in-flight” experience was as safe as possible.

And holy moly, did you come through! We raised enough to cover the cost of all the Ruff Land Kennels, plus some additional funds to be used for cleaning supplies, blankets, and crate bowls. YOU ARE AMAZING.

The crates (with lucky animals in tow) took their maiden voyage to Iowa and Wisconsin recently.

THANK YOU to the following individuals for sponsoring the cost of the kennels and additional supplies to make these lifesaving transports even more successful!

  • Virginia Gibson in memory of Claire Folkins Bolen
  • Rosa Collins
  • Leslie Pritchard in honor of Kaitlyn Wayans
  • Mona Smith in memory of Libby Tucker
  • Aubrey Tinnin in memory of Jake
  • Catherine Brooks in memory of Jeanette Sprague

P.G.A.P Mega Dog Adoption Event – May 2022

While the PGA may be over, the real event is this weekend – the P.G.A.P (Please Go Adopt a Pup) mega dog adoption event!

Tulsa Animal Welfare (TAW) is over capacity with lots of great, highly adoptable dogs of all sizes, so this called for an adoption event of epic proportions!

OAA, TAW, and Expo Square are teaming up to bring you the PGAP all-day dog adoption event this Saturday, May 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Expo Square SageNet Center. The event will host more than 35+ dogs – all fully vaccinated, altered, microchipped and distemper negative. All of these pups are PGAP champions!

All adoption fees are waived to approved adopters, and every adopted pup will go home with an awesome goodie bag with free items, including a bed, food, treats, toys, and coupons for a free professional grooming and veterinary wellness exam with a nail trim.

While some community dogs have entered the city shelter positive for distemper, the shelter’s excellent identification and prompt testing have kept the dogs in the shelter extremely healthy. All dogs brought to the event are fully immunized against distemper, parvo, and more, as well as specifically tested for distemper via PCR and titer testing. They are all negative.

Thank you to our wonderful event sponsors (so far): Expo Square, Alta Vista Animal Hospital, Pet Supplies Plus – Tulsa.

Free North Tulsa Dog Vaccine Clinic – December 2021

OAA is offering FREE DAPP dog vaccines for dogs in the north Tulsa community on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 1 – 4 p.m. at Chamberlain Park, 4940 N. Frankfort Ave., Tulsa. The DAPP vaccine helps prevent distemper and parvo.

Cases of distemper recently closed the Tulsa Animal Shelter, and have been seen in community dogs in this area. Distemper is highly contagious and can be fatal for unvaccinated dogs (of any age) and puppies. ALL dogs need to be vaccinated against distemper, regardless of age.

The vaccines will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. We have 400 vaccines to distribute at this event. No personal or pet information will be collected at this event.

DAPP is the ONLY vaccine/service being offered. There will be no cat vaccines offered at this time.

EVENT RULES:

1. This is a drive-thru style event. Please stay in your car with your dog(s) and wait to be directed to a vaccine station. Walk-ups will be directed to a vaccine station.

2. Do NOT bring any dogs that are sick (i.e., diarrhea, vomiting, upper respiratory signs, like goopy eyes, drainage from nose.)

3. Do NOT bring any aggressive dogs that can’t be easily handled/vaccinated.

4. Bring your dog on a secure collar and leash.

5. Do NOT allow your dog to interact with other people’s dogs.

6. Do NOT bring any dogs younger than 6 weeks to be vaccinated. Puppies need 3 rounds of boosters of the DAPP vaccine at 3 weeks apart to be fully immunized and protected.

Thank you to Dr. Carolyn Cash with Alta Vista Animal Hospital, Tulsa SPCA and Tulsa Animal Welfare for helping staff this event.

*Depending on demand, OAA will schedule additional clinics.
